Among lectures, there were case discussions, practical demonstrations, image study sessions, courses, in addition to the result of the Photography Contest and the Marathon of Residents in Diagnostic Imaging. The crowd was clearly excited, wanting to enjoy every last possible moment surrounded by the most brilliant Radiology professionals in Brazil and by renowned international invited professors.

One of the highlights was the Course of Radiology Life Assist (AVR), which took place over the three days of the event. Taught mainly by the coordinator of the activity, Dr. Adonis Manzella, from Pernambuco, the course gathered from residents to the most experienced professionals.

The objective was both to update professionals in the area on international guidelines and standards and risks of contrast media, as well as to prepare them in case of an emergency, with practical activities of basic support, airways and advanced. Dr. Adonis congratulates the event and believes that CBR's “itinerancy” factor is essential. “It is important to give opportunity to people from the region, with less flexibility of displacements, to participate, and it is always an honor for the city to host a Brazilian congress, whatever its specialty”, reinforces the radiologist from Pernambuco.

Another highlight was the Case Based Course, which presented different cases within themes brought up by the teachers. Coordinated by Dr. Luciana Costa, from Minas Gerais, the activities generated many discussions. Dr. Rubens Chojniak, coordinator of the CBR Teaching, Residency and Improvement Commission, was one of the professors invited to the course, he came from São Paulo to show collected images of his extensive experience in the field of Oncology, which were voted through the CBR application on mobile in real time. The space promoted a real “radiological quiz”.

Of course, there were also lectures in other languages by the long-awaited international guests of CBR 17. One of them, a Spaniard who lives in Dallas (Texas), in the United States, Dr. Ivan Pedrosa, left his first lecture of the day in the Internal medicine pleased with the response from the public. In addition to two classes, he also participated in the case discussion session at the end of the afternoon, one of the last activities of the event. “It's an honor to see that people woke up early on a Saturday morning to attend my lecture”, rejoices the Spaniard.

For the first time at CBR, he also made a point of praising the colleagues he met during the event and believes in the importance of including residents in the activities that were developed. “They're great doctors, and it's great that there's time to show resident work between classes by experienced professionals. I like that”, says the European.

The room Ultrasound in Gynecology and Obstetrics/Fetal Medicine presented, during all days, one of the highest attendance rates of the event. In the room where the module was held, there was also a private environment with live transmission on a screen for carrying out procedures during classes, in real time. With a lapel microphone, the experienced doctors were able to show and teach, in practice, how they perform their exams.

Victor Bonduki, an expert on the subject, was one of the occupants of this technology, and believes that it has already become a trend. “It's very interesting, this must already be being done everywhere”, he comments, “the room was packed during the entire practical class”, he celebrates.

Participants of the Brazilian Residents' Marathon

A 2nd Brazilian Marathon of Residents in Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, a radiological knowledge competition, repeated the great success of last year, with more than 20 teams from different residency and improvement services in the country. The concentration of the participants during the analysis of each of the 43 images was impressive.

The winning team was formed by doctors Gabrielle Castanho, Gláucia Michelis and Katsumi Junior, all R3 from the Federal University of Paraná, in Curitiba. They confessed that they had high expectations of winning the race and could not contain their emotions after the result was announced.
