The National Mammography Commission of the Brazilian College of Radiology and Image Diagnosis (CBR), through the new opinion of the CBR ratified by the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB), informs:<\/p>\n
Ultrasonography is an important exam in breast evaluation, with specific indications. It is mainly used to characterize changes that are palpable or detected on mammography (generally nodules and asymmetries), as well as for complementary screening to mammography in the group of women with dense breasts.<\/p>\n
It has wide availability and affordable cost, with good accuracy.<\/p>\n
Recently consulted, the AMB informed that the assessment of breast ultrasound (4.09.01.11-4 \u2013 US Breasts) does not include the assessment of the armpits. Thus, in cases where the evaluation of the breasts and armpits is requested by the attending physician, the two codes available in the CBHPM Table (or similar ones) must be used:<\/p>\n
\u2013 Referring to the breasts (4.09.01.11-4 \u2013 US Breasts);<\/p>\n
\u2013 Referring to the armpits (4.09.01.21-1 \u2013 US Superficial structures \u2013 cervical or armpit or muscle or tendon).<\/p>\n
