The Brazilian College of Radiology and Image Diagnosis (CBR) signed a note from the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB), along with more than 60 medical entities, reinforcing the concern about a possible release of asbestos or asbestos in Brazil.<\/p>\n
The action was a response to the movement in the Federal Senate that calls for the release of asbestos production in Brazil, with a Temporary External Commission on the subject, requested by Senator Vanderlan Cardoso (PP-GO), which was approved in plenary.<\/p>\n
Asbestos or asbestos is a mineral fiber strongly associated with the development of numerous serious diseases, which is why its use was prohibited in 2017, by decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), being a worldwide movement since 2005.<\/p>\n
Among the various damages that the material can cause to health, Mesothelioma, a type of cancer that affects the pleura, and lung cancer stand out. In general, workers who have contact with the substance, aspirating through the airways, are the most prone.<\/p>\n

Exposure to asbestos occurs through inhalation, both in the work environment and in contact with contaminated material or environments.<\/p>\n In Brazil, the substance was banned in 2017, by decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). This is a worldwide movement: since 2005, the World Health Organization (WHO) has called for an urgent ban on asbestos and 55 countries have already complied with the guidance.<\/p>\n Studies prove that there is no exposure without risks. In Brazil, between 2000 and 2010, 2,400 deaths due to asbestos-related health problems were recorded in the Mortality Information System (SIM).<\/p>\n It's a step backwards to discuss the release of asbestos.
