The biosafety of patients in the face of contrast scarcity around the world is the subject of the next Webinar promoted by the Accreditation Program in Diagnostic Imaging (PADI). The online seminar will take place on August 16, starting at 7:30 pm, on the official channel of the Brazilian College of Radiology and Image Diagnostics (CBR) on YouTube. don't miss<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDue to the scarcity of radiological contrasts, it becomes necessary to discuss concepts related to the biosafety of patients, so that we can think about risks linked to this scenario\u201d, says Marcela Padilha Facetto Azevedo, one of the three speakers. She is a nurse with a Ph. USP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other speakers of the Padi Webinar \u201cHow can the lack of radiological contrasts impact the biosafety of patients?\u201d will be Guilherme Hohgraefe Neto, specialist in Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, full member of the CBR and of the Commission for Accreditation in Diagnostic Imaging (Cadi) of the College; and Bruna Garbugio Dutra, Neuroradiologist from the Neuroimaging Group at Santa Casa de Miseric\u00f3rdia de S\u00e3o Paulo and Grupo Fleury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other CBR actions in the face of contrast shortage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In July, the Ministry of Health released a Note with guidelines for rationalizing the use of iodinated contrast<\/a>. The document was prepared in partnership with the CBR and other entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe shortage of contrast media is global and of great concern. The interruption in the supply, production and distribution chains is mainly due to the Covid-19 pandemic in China, since measures of lockdown<\/em> were enacted locally, impacting the production chain of Chinese industries,\u201d says the note. \u201cOne of the main companies affected, the laboratory GE Healthcare, informed that the factory in Shanghai had been affected, but that, since the beginning of June, it had resumed its production capacity in 100%. However, due to the shortage in the international market, there is still difficulty in meeting and normalizing the relationship between supply and demand\u201d, continues the document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The College's cultural director, Mayra Veloso, even participated in a presentation by representatives of the Ministry on the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBR has carried out a series of initiatives in recent months to discuss alternatives in times of contrast scarcity. In June, a webinar<\/a> on the theme which featured a lecture by Guilherme Hohgraefe Neto with recommendations and alternatives. \u201cWe cannot give up quality, to look for solutions while preserving quality\u201d, highlighted the president of the College, Valdair Muglia. CBR's scientific director, Luciana Costa, also gave interviews to Record TV<\/a> and to Bandeirantes Group<\/a> about the lack of contrast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBR22<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Contrast media will also be the subject of one of several lectures at the 51st Brazilian Congress of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging (CBR22). One of the main events in radiology, CBR22 will be held from September 1st to 3rd, in Florian\u00f3polis (SC), with scientific activities in 16 subspecialties and other topics of interest.
