ESOR AIMS course focuses on radiological emergencies

ESOR_Eule_rot_SloganThe year 2017 marks the seventh edition of the ESOR AIMS Course in Brazil. The novelty of the event held through the partnership between the Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging (CBR) and the European School of Radiology (ESOR), an educational institution linked to the European Society of Radiology (ESR), will be the theme: for the first time, classes will address Radiological Emergencies.

"It's a hot topic at the moment, which interests many professionals, as many work in hospitals and have to deal with emergencies in their routines", says the national coordinator of the course, Dr. Luciana Costa Silva (MG). “They will be treated from neurological emergencies, such as trauma to the central nervous system [CNS], to emergencies of acute aortic syndromes, which are vascular emergencies. So, we will have a very broad approach, but always focused on emergencies, which are of interest not only to advanced radiologists, but also to general radiologists”, he adds.

The course will take place on the 25th and 26th of August, at the Associação Médica de Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte (MG). “It is an easily accessible city for those leaving from different parts of the country, since it has a vast air network”, recalls Dr. Luciana. The person in charge of local coordination will be Dr. Cibele Carvalho (MG), president of the Society of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging of Minas Gerais (SRMG) and director of Professional Defense at CBR.

Current members of the College and ESR can register until June 10th. After that, if there are still spots available, non-members will also be able to register, always through the website http://www.cursoesor.com.br. It is important to highlight that the number is limited to 90 participants and that the official language is English, without simultaneous translation.

“This year, the course will have a slightly different format: it will be two full days, with twelve theoretical classes and twelve workshops instead of nine, and two classes by each European teacher instead of one”, explains the coordinator of ESOR in Brazil. The always praised workshops will take place, as usual, after the theoretical classes, dividing participants into three groups of up to 30 members to discuss day-to-day clinical cases related to each topic.

Those who attend the course will have the opportunity to follow an in-depth review and update on relevant aspects of Diagnostic Imaging of the most important traumatic and non-traumatic emergencies, including brain injury and stroke, head and neck emergencies, chest trauma and pulmonary embolism , acute aortic syndrome, acute abdomen, mesenteric ischemia, female pelvis emergence, pediatric abdominal trauma, and sports injuries.

Among the main features of the course are assessing the potential of advanced imaging in the clinical management of traumatic injuries, reviewing current imaging strategies and criteria available in the detection and characterization of acute abdominal conditions, and addressing important clinical questions that need to be answered in optimizing management. of patients with acute chest problems.

“We will have great Brazilian professors, each in their own specific area”, highlights Dr. Luciana.
