Note on mandatory use of cervical radiological protectors for exams in RJ

The Brazilian College of Radiology and Image Diagnosis (CBR) became aware of Law 7.700/17, which makes the use of cervical radiological protectors mandatory for performing radiological exams in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The CBR, as a representative institution of Brazilian Radiology, and the Association of Radiology and Image Diagnosis of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SRad-RJ) regret that they were not contacted in the process of elaboration and approval of this law. Regarding this topic, the CBR had already issued an opinion in 2016, based on scientific evidence and in accordance with the guidance of international radiological entities, through which it reinforces that the use of neck protectors can even interfere with the quality of certain examinations, harming patients. In their constant concern to offer the best assistance to the population, as representatives of the radiological community, CBR and SRad-RJ are seeking ways to discuss, in the relevant forums, the norms provided for in the said Law, valid in the State of Rio de Janeiro .   doctor Manuel de Souza Rocha President of CBR doctor Alair Augusto SMD dos Santos Vice-president of CBR Board member of SRad-RJ doctor Leonardo Kayat Bittencourt President of SRad-RJ
