CBR congratulates radiologist from Minas Gerais for winning the 2025 Jabuti Prize.

The Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging (CBR) congratulates radiologist Marcelo Henrique Silva on his book Neon Blood, winner of the 2025 Jabuti Prize in the Best New Author category. The Jabuti is the largest and most important literary prize in Brazil, awarded by the Brazilian Book Chamber.

For the CBR, this achievement represents not only a remarkable individual feat, but also a source of pride for the entire medical community. In writing, radiologist Marcelo Henrique conveyed sensitivity and empathy, essential characteristics in medical practice as well.

The CBR hopes that Marcelo Henrique Silva's example can inspire other radiologists to find a balance between their profession, which places them in difficult situations daily, and activities that promote personal satisfaction.

THE AUTHOR – Originally from Passos, in the interior of Minas Gerais, Marcelo Henrique, 32, graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). He began his professional career in the Mais Médicos program, working in health centers in neighborhoods on the outskirts of his hometown. Currently, Marcelo Henrique works as a radiologist specializing in oncology in Belo Horizonte.

THE WORK – Written between shifts and late nights, Neon Blood was born from a genuine restlessness and an act of listening. Based on real characters and events, Neon Blood takes place between the years 1970 and 1990.

In a context of profound social transformations, the author addresses the creation of the Unified Health System (SUS) and the emergence of HIV in Brazil. Blending fiction and reality, Marcelo Henrique brings to life characters who were once invisible, but whose lives were marked by courage and solidarity.
