The Brazilian College of Radiology and Image Diagnosis (CBR) and other medical entities became aware of the normative resolution of the Federal Nursing Council (Cofen), still to be published, which proposes the performance of obstetric ultrasound by specialist nurses.
In 2015, the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) had taken a position on the subject, through opinion 622/2015, in which it questions the legal legality of the Nursing Council's regulations on the subject.
In response to the recent approval of the Cofen regulations, the CBR has worked together with the CFM, the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB) and the Brazilian Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics Associations (Febrasgo) to legally challenge this resolution.
As a national body representing the specialty and aiming at good patient care, the CBR informs its members that it is attentive in monitoring this relevant issue.
