CBR and FPMED meet with the Ministry of Health to discuss breast cancer screening in Brazil

The Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging (CBR) and the Parliamentary Front of Medicine (FPMED) met this Tuesday (November 19), at 11 am, in Brasília (DF), to discuss breast cancer screening in Brazil. Participating on behalf of the CBR were Dr. Cibele Carvalho – President, Dr. Rubens Chojniak – 1st Vice-President, Dr. Linei Urban – Cultural Director and Dr. Bernardo Tessarollo – 1st Secretary and on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Dr. José Barreto Carvalheira – General Coordinator of the National Policy for Cancer Prevention and Control – CGCAN subordinate to the SAES/MS Office.

The meeting was scheduled at the request of Senator Hiran Gonçalves – President of FPMED, following a request from the CBR to the Parliamentary Front for Medicine. The College presented three agendas: 

  • Expanding access to mammography exams for SUS patients;
  • Expanding the age range for breast cancer screening, given the concern about the increase in the number of women with breast cancer under the age of 50;
  • Development of strategies to reduce waiting time for treatment to begin.
