February 5th is National Mammography Day in Brazil. The date was created to raise awareness among women about the importance of mammography for detecting breast abnormalities. This is a crucial moment for radiology and diagnostic imaging.
The Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging (CBR) is one of the entities that embrace and celebrate this very special date for women's health. This year, on February 2nd, the CBR Webinar: National Mammography Day was held to celebrate the date. The event discussed the importance of early diagnosis, the impact of late diagnosis on treatment, and the challenges of breast cancer in Brazil. The meeting included the participation of several specialists in the field who debated the topic from different perspectives.

The Brazilian College of Radiology (CBR) has the National Mammography Commission (CNM), a technical-scientific body that plays a strategic role in evaluating, developing, preparing, and issuing technical opinions, and in the continuous improvement of diagnostic imaging services throughout the country.

CNM has been in existence for over 30 years and is comprised of numerous specialists with extensive experience in the field. Its social role is to propose guidelines, promote best practices, and contribute to the formulation of public policies aimed at the early detection of breast cancer, in line with the highest international standards.

Last year (2025), the College launched the campaign "Fake News Kills". The aim of the campaign was to combat the spread of false news about mammograms, breast cancer, myths and beliefs by providing information verified by specialist radiologists. The campaign was a success and helped raise awareness in Brazilian society about the importance of imaging exams such as mammograms and ultrasounds for the early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
The CBR reinforces the importance of the date and will always collaborate in disseminating truthful and extremely important information for the Brazilian population, in addition to being present alongside public bodies so that all women can have access to dignified care.
