This Tuesday, 5/23, a ceremony was held at the CBR headquarters to award the prizes offered by Bayer to the recipients of scholarships from the Scholarship ESOR-CBR program, promoted by European School of Radiology (ESOR) and the Brazilian College of Radiology and Image Diagnosis (CBR), which offers internship grants in Europe to three former Brazilian residents selected through a selection process defined by the scores in the Annual Evaluation of Residents and Improving in 2023, and which undergo a selection process by ESOR to define the winners. The Drs. Afonso Paranhos Silva Santos, Genival Viana de Oliveira Júnior and Leonardo César de Freitas Cayres were the top three, each winning a three-month internship in Europe to improve their knowledge in Radiology.
The ceremony was held in a hybrid format at the CBR headquarters, on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo (SP). The contemplated radiologists received recognition from Dr. Cibele Carvalho, President of CBR, Dr. Ronaldo Baroni, CBR Scientific Director; and Bayer representatives: Dr. Tatiana Azzi, Medical Manager, and Gabriella Ruffato, Medical Relations Analyst in Radiology.
The winners will have the opportunity to follow a highly qualified residency program in Europe, indicated by ESOR and in the subspecialty chosen by them.
The Doctor. Genival Viana Júnior is from Arapiraca, a city located in the interior of the state of Alagoas (AL) and is 29 years old. He graduated from the Federal University of Alagoas, completed his medical residency at Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo (SP). He chose to act in King's College Hospital, London, United Kingdom, in the area of Neuroradiology.
The Doctor. Genival Viana Júnior talks about his excitement in knowing that he was among the three selected: “I was very excited to be chosen, I was really happy.” The doctor adds that this experience of going to London will be very good for his life: “It is an incredible opportunity, I think that going to London, for the King's College London, which is a century-old institution, will be very good both for my life and for what I want to bring to Brazil”. Genival also thanked the partnership between the organizations: “I am very grateful to CBR, the European School of Radiology (ESOR) and Bayer.
The Doctor. Afonso Santos is from Ubatã, located in the interior of Bahia (BA) and is 28 years old. He graduated in Medicine from Escola Bahiana de Medicina and completed his medical residency at the Associação e Hospital Beneficência de São Paulo (SP). He also chose to work in Neuroradiology, however, he will carry out the internship at Erasmus Medical Center, in rotterdam, In Holland.
The Doctor. Afonso Santos says he is very happy with the award: “Very happy to have been included in the program in partnership with the European School of Radiology, CBR and Bayer”. The doctor also spoke about his perspectives on this experience: “I hope that with this program we will be able to learn a lot about radiology, experiences and that this exchange will be very positive”.
The Doctor. Leonardo César Cayres is from Araguari, in the interior of Minas Gerais (MG), and is 27 years old. He decided to go to the state of São Paulo in search of large medical centers for professional practice and did his medical residency at the University of São Paulo (USP) in Ribeirão Preto (SP). He chose to act in King's College Hospital, London, United Kingdom, in the field of Thoracic Radiology.
The Doctor. Leonardo César Cayres tells his professional life goal: “My life goal is to return to that region (where he is from) and bring back the knowledge I acquired”. The doctor says that he was very happy to compete for the scholarship in Europe: “When I found out that I had been among the 40 in Brazil and would be able to compete for that vacancy in Europe, I was very happy and dedicated myself”.
At the end, Dr Cibele and Dr Ronaldo thanked Bayer for supporting this important agreement established with ESOR. They reinforced that through the partnership it will be possible to promote the highly qualified residency program in Europe for the three awarded doctors and provide more expanded knowledge in radiology and imaging diagnosis to society as a whole.
