The Brazilian College of Radiology and Image Diagnosis (CBR) vehemently repudiates the publication of the cartoon “How a rapist dresses” by Marília Marz published in issue no. 34,688 – page 2 of February 24, 2024 (Saturday), in the newspaper Folha de São Paulo (SP), which denigrates the image of Brazilian doctors.
We understand the importance of freedom of expression and humor in society, but it is unacceptable for professionals dedicated to healthcare to be the target of representations that disrespect the nobility of their profession. The cartoon in question not only perpetuates harmful stereotypes, but also belittles the work and commitment of doctors to providing 24/7 care across the country.
We recognize the responsibility of the media to provide content that promotes mutual respect and understanding. The cartoon published in Folha de São Paulo does not comply with these principles, and we strongly urge a critical review of the editorial approach to avoid damage to doctors' reputations.
CBR remains committed to promoting excellence in the practice of Radiology and healthcare as a whole. We request an immediate retraction and responsible reflection on the way we are portrayed in the media.
