New edition of the Hands On CBR Course deals with Interstitial Lung Diseases

After addressing the theme “Pancreas” in its first edition, held in December 2018, the Hands On CBR Course takes place again in March, now addressing “Lung Interstitial Diseases”. The course will feature a theoretical context related to the most recent consensus on interstitial pneumonia and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Therefore, approximately 25 cases can be evaluated and discussed by the participants. Students will be able to evaluate dedicated cases on individual computers and discuss their questions directly with professors, providing an even more direct interaction with in-depth analysis. The objective of the activity is to update radiologists regarding the latest consensus of the international societies of Pulmonology, Radiology and Pathology regarding interstitial pneumonia and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, guiding the interpretation and communication of data, considering the emergence of new treatments and the role of the radiologist in the multidisciplinary discussion. The activity will be coordinated by Dr. Dante Escuissato, Master in Internal Medicine from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and Doctor in Medicine (Radiology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and Dr. Gustavo Meirelles, PhD from the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), with a postdoctoral degree and specialization in PET/CT at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in New York (USA). “In addition to expanding the horizon in the interpretation and formulation of the differential diagnosis of CT patterns in the aforementioned diseases, this course aims to update the role of the radiologist within multidisciplinary groups focused on patient care, including therapeutic guidance, since at the moment new drugs are being used in the management of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis”, explains Dr. Dante Escuissato. Required prior knowledge The basis for this course will be the review of high-resolution computed tomography standards for diffuse pulmonary diseases and also the consensus cited above (Sverzellati N et al. American Thoracic Society– European Respiratory Society Classification of the Idiopathic Interstitial Pneumonia: Advances in Knowledge since 2002 RadioGraphics 2015; 35:1849–1872; Raghu G. et al.
