It was with immense regret that CBR received the news of the passing of Dr. Max Agostinho Vianna do Amaral, yesterday, April 6, aged 89.
Born in 1931, he graduated in Medicine from the School of Medicine and Surgery in Rio de Janeiro. He worked as a darkroom, technician, until he graduated as a radiologist. He did an internship at the Hospital dos Servidores do Estado, with Nicola Caminha, Waldyr Maymone and other masters.
Member of the CBR since 1963, he was head of the Radiology Service at Hospital São Francisco de Assis, Hospital Geral de Jacarepaguá and Hospital Universitário Clementino Fraga Filho at UFRJ.
He chaired the Brazilian Society of Radiology in the biennium 1986/1987 and was General Secretary of the CBR during the tenures of doctors Paulo Biaso Villar do Valle (1981/83) and Domingos José Correa da Rocha (1987/89).
He was Residency Teaching Coordinator at the Radiology Service of Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Rio de Janeiro and Chief of Clinic of the Service, from 1995 to 2018.
Dr. Max is survived by his wife, fellow radiologist, Dr. Gizelia Braga Santos do Amaral, and four children; Max Ricardo, also a radiologist, Thereza, Rodrigo and Diogo, as well as grandchildren and countless friends.
