It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Armando Rocha Amoêdo, which took place on January 29, 2018, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The Doctor. Amoêdo was one of the most important pediatric radiologists in Brazil, being responsible for the dissemination of this subspecialty in our country, participating in the training of numerous radiologists and having also collaborated in the training of pediatricians and pediatric surgeons. He graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of Pará in 1956 and, in 1964, became a Member of the Brazilian College of Radiology.
He worked at Hospital dos Servidores do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (1960-1985) and at Hospital Municipal Jesus, an important pediatric hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro. He was a Founding Member of SLARP (Latin American Society of Pediatric Radiology) and President of the Brazilian Society of Radiology (current Society of Radiology of Rio de Janeiro – SRAD/RJ) in the biennium 1977-1978.
He gave numerous lectures throughout the national territory and in other countries, having received the title of Honorary Member of the Bolivian Society of Pediatric Surgery in 1978. of the Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, in 2014.
Dr. Amoêdo, in addition to training and encouraging pediatric radiologists, was also instrumental in training countless radiologists throughout Brazil, always leaving behind friendships and much affection. His professional competence, his experience and his eternal laughter will forever remain in the memory of everyone who had the privilege of working with him.
