It is with great regret that we report the death of Dr. Armando Rocha Amoêdo, which occurred on January 29, 2018, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Dr. Amoêdo was one of the most important pediatric radiologists in Brazil, responsible for the dissemination of this subspecialty in our country, participating in the formation of numerous radiologists and also collaborating in the training of pediatricians and pediatric surgeons. He graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of Pará in 1956 and, in 1964, became Full Member of the Brazilian College of Radiology.
He worked at the Servant Hospital of the State of Rio de Janeiro (1960-1985) and at the Municipal Hospital Jesus, an important pediatric hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro. He was a Founding Member of SLARP (Latin American Society of Pediatric Radiology) and President of the Brazilian Society of Radiology (current Society of Radiology of Rio de Janeiro - SRAD / RJ) in the biennium 1977-1978.
He has given numerous lectures throughout the national territory and in other countries, having received the title of Honorary Partner of the Bolivian Society of Pediatric Surgery in 1978. He also received, in life, many honors from various societies, including the “Gold Medal”. of the Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, in 2014.
Dr. Amoêdo, in addition to training and encouraging pediatric radiologists, was also instrumental in the formation of numerous radiologists throughout Brazil, always leaving where he passed, friendships and much affection.
