The lack of iodinated contrast media in Radiology throughout Brazil was the subject of an interview given by the scientific director of the Brazilian College of Radiology and Image Diagnostics (CBR), Luciana Costa, this Wednesday, June 15, to “Jornal da Record”, aired on national television and on newscasts from Record Minas.

Luciana Costa spoke of the importance of using these substances, when they need to be indicated, and whether there are tests that can be substituted for the diagnosis of various diseases, without the use of contrast. The radiologist is also deputy scientific director of the Medical Association of Minas Gerais (AMMG).

The problem of the lack of contrast media in radiology is mainly due to the high demand caused by Covid-19, mainly in China, added to a lockdown in the Asian country that caused the temporary stoppage of the manufacture of iodinated contrast in one of the main producers of the raw material in the world.

The scarcity of contrast media was also the subject, on Tuesday night (14), of a webinar promoted by CBR with the presentation of data on the current scenario, alternatives and strategies for managing the use of contrast. Check it out on Workplace and official page of CBR on Youtube.
