“It is based on the themes of connection, inclusion and diversity in Radiology that we are going to think about our future!”. The message from the Scientific Board sets the tone for the 51st Brazilian Congress of Radiology and Imaging Diagnosis (CBR22), which will take place from September 1st to 3rd, in Florianópolis (SC), and is open for subscriptions.
The CBR22 theme, “A Closer Look,” reflects the College's focus on diversity and inclusion issues, in all its senses. Launched by CBR in 2019, the document “The Profile of the Specialist Doctor in Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging in Brazil” identified that there is an uneven distribution of specialists in our country, with only 37.6% of female radiologists and 53.0% of male radiologists. radiologists concentrated in the Southeast region (Read the full publication here).
For the College's scientific director, Luciana Costa, this result is a reflection of “the fragmentation of the health system, the inequalities in access to medical care and the social and economic inequalities present in various other aspects of our society”.
In the CBR22 promotional materials and during the event, in “Date Art”, data will be presented on the advances of the CBR in promoting diversity and how much progress still needs to be made. Among the positive highlights, the increase of female speakers in the traditional Congress in the last ten years. Last year, women were 35.2%, compared to 26.1% in 2011.
“This Board, in all its aspects, has been working to make the CBR more vibrant and modern. In all events, we bring the need that, among the speakers, we have the representation of different specialists in diagnostic imaging: we propose diversity from the points of view of gender, geography and generations, among others”, highlights Luciana Costa.
Another successful initiative aimed at promoting inclusion and diversity was the “CBR millennials”, which highlighted the work of young radiologists during CBR21. “We believe we are on the right path!”, says the scientific director.
The president of the CBR, Valdair Muglia, invites radiologists, residents, managers and owners of clinics, hospitals and other professionals in the sector “for a new perspective, a closer look”. “In addition to a high-level scientific Congress, we emphasize the value of inclusion for our profession. With these values, CBR seeks to make its annual meeting an event that represents the whole country, all ethnicities and all radiologists”, he highlights.
CBR22 will have greater integration and interactivity between participants
This year, the activities of the Congress, which will take place entirely in person, will have a format focused on integration and interactivity between participants. CBR22 speakers and delegates will have several arenas, a marathon, cases of the day, a scientific work session, in addition to a large and modern exhibition area. The event's program will also address the most relevant news in the area with great national and international specialists.
